Fire Prevention & Permits

Fire Marshal DuarteFire Marshal Laura Duarte
Fairmount's Fire Prevention & Permits division deals with building site plans and permits. Plans are reviewed to insure public safety as well as our own. We review each plan and verify that they include proper fire lanes, Knox boxes, fire alarms, fire sprinklers, fire hydrants, and standpipes. Permits will be granted once all plans meet fire protection guidelines.

The Fire Prevention & Permits division also enforces all state and local codes involving fire safety and prevention. Reviews all plans, performs inspections for all new construction and remodeling of buildings, except one- and two- family dwellings. Conducts annual building inspections of existing public, commercial, and residential dwellings.

Do you know a child experimenting with fire?
Death by fire is the leading cause of accidental death of children in the home. A child can easily start a fire by playing with matches and lighters. If the child is over the age of ten, an educational intervention session consists of attendance in the Juvenile Arson Education Class offered at the Juvenile Assessment Center and co-taught by West Metro Fire Rescue. The fee for attendance in this class is $30.00 if voluntary and $60.00 if a summons has been issued. If the child is under the age of ten, an educational intervention session consists of meeting with an educator and fire investigator to learn basic safety behaviors related to matches, lighters and fire play.

For more information or to schedule an intervention, contact Inspector Laura Duarte at 303-279-2928.
